Wheelchair Pickleball Competition Makes Historic Debut at the 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships
For the first time, wheelchair pickleball will transition from an exhibition event to a fully competitive division at the 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships, marking a groundbreaking moment for the sport.
Taking place from November 9-17 at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Arizona, the National Governing Body for pickleball, USA Pickleball, has officially introduced wheelchair divisions into the competitive lineup. This is a major step in their ongoing mission to make pickleball an inclusive sport for players of all abilities.
“At USA Pickleball, we are dedicated to making the game accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability,” said Justin Maloof, Chief Competition Officer of USA Pickleball. “We’ve showcased wheelchair pickleball in past Nationals through exhibition games, but this year, adaptive athletes will finally get the chance to compete. We’re excited to welcome these remarkable players to Mesa and witness their competitive spirit firsthand."
A New Chapter for Wheelchair Pickleball
Wheelchair players can now register for their divisions through September 30 at 8 p.m. PST. The registration is open to all adaptive athletes with no prior competition experience required, making this an opportunity for both seasoned players and newcomers to participate in one of the most prestigious pickleball tournaments in the U.S.
The wheelchair divisions are scheduled to compete from Saturday, November 9 through Monday, November 11, and will be held at the state-of-the-art Arizona Athletic Grounds, where athletes can enjoy a premium tournament experience.
Exciting Perks for Athletes and Fans
All athletes who register for the 2024 Nationals will receive an exclusive player gift, a commemorative aluminum bag tag, a USA Pickleball Nationals pin, and partner giveaways to enhance their tournament experience.
Beyond the competition, players and their guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including a dedicated hospitality lounge, free practice courts, interactive partner activations, and a wide range of food and beverage options. The event will also offer multiple spectator zones, ensuring a great viewing experience for family and friends who come to support the athletes.
Additionally, ticket sales for spectators will open in early fall, offering fans a chance to witness this historic debut and all the action across various divisions.
